- Prepare the Wooden Box:
- Choose a size for your scare box. It should be big enough to hold your mechanism and small enough to be easily handled.
- Cut the wooden pieces to create the box using a saw or pre-cut pieces if available.
- Assemble the box by nailing or screwing the pieces together.
- Install the Spring and Damping:
- Decide where you want the scare effect to occur within the box.
- Fix one end of the spring to the bottom or back of the box.
- Attach the other end of the spring to a panel or platform that will move when released. This could be where you’ll place the scary item (like a toy spider or a loud noise-making device).
- Add damping material to reduce the noise and make the movement smoother. This could be foam or rubber padding where the moving parts connect.
- Attach Hinges and Latch:
- Install hinges on one side of the box lid and attach it to the main box.
- Add a latch or lock mechanism to keep the box closed until you want to trigger the scare.
- Finishing Touches:
- Decorate the outside of the box to make it enticing or intriguing to open.
- Test the mechanism to ensure it works properly and delivers the desired scare.
